Having secured third place at the 2024 Asian U18 Volleyball Championship in Thailand last year, the Chinese Taipei women's volleyball team earned their spot in this year's U19 World Championship. They recently set off for Serbia, ready to take on the U19 World Championship with sights set on reaching the quarterfinals.
The Chinese Taipei women's volleyball team has departed to participate in the U19 Volleyball World Championship.
It has been since 2015 that the Chinese Taipei women's volleyball team last competed in the U19 World Championship, which was then categorized as U18. Their best historical result was 7th place in 2001. This time, led by players such as Chen Yi from Overseas Chinese High School and Chen Pinyu from Dongshan High School, they face tough opponents in the preliminary round. Besides host Serbia, the other four teams in their group come from Central and South America, including Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, and Puerto Rico. The top four teams in the group stage will advance to the round of 16 knockout stage.
Since the U19 category is considered almost adult level for girls, it is rare to face European and Central/South American teams. The entire Chinese Taipei team is excited and looking forward to competing against these world-class squads. To prepare for the physically strong and fast-paced playing style of European and American teams, the Chinese Taipei team began training on May 5. They specifically practiced against taller players and faster attacks by using male players as simulation opponents.
Achieving a top 4 finish surrounded by strong European and American rivals is not easy. This time, the Chinese Taipei team’s goal is to reach the top 8 by securing the best possible ranking in their group. In the round of 16 knockout stage, they could face strong teams like Italy, Japan, or China, making for highly anticipated matchups.
