On June 30 local time, the 2025 Wimbledon Tennis Championships kicked off, with Latvia’s 20th seed "O-sister" Ostapenko losing 5-7, 6-2, 2-6 to British player Katta, ending her run in the women’s singles first round. Ostapenko will next join forces with Taiwan’s star Hsieh Su-wei to contest the women's doubles, seeded fourth. Their opening match is scheduled for July 2, and Hsieh will also aim to win her fifth career grass-court Grand Slam doubles title.
Latvia’s 20th seed "O-sister" Ostapenko
Ostapenko won the 2017 French Open women's singles title and has reached at least the quarterfinals in all four Grand Slam tournaments. She achieved her best Wimbledon result in 2018 by reaching the semifinals and also advanced to the quarterfinals last year.
Against world No. 51 Katta, Ostapenko broke serve early but lost two service games in the later stages, dropping the first set 5-7. Although she bounced back in the second set, she collapsed in the decider, being broken three times at the start and falling behind 0-5, ultimately unable to recover and losing 2-6.
