The "Pie King" returns to Houston! Capela signs a 3-year, $21.5 million deal with the Rockets, another target lost by the Lakers.

On July 1st Beijing time, according to well-known reporter Shams, free agent center Capela has signed a 3-year, $21.5 million contract to rejoin the Rockets. The contract is fully guaranteed, and with him, Sengun, and Adams, the Rockets will have a very strong interior lineup next season.

Now 31, Capela, known by fans as the "Pie King," was an important member of the Rockets during the Harden era. Before joining the Hawks in the 2020-21 season, Capela spent six seasons with Houston, averaging 12.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. During his five seasons with Atlanta, he played 330 games, starting 313, and averaged 11.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. Last season, Capela gradually lost his starting role and was frequently rumored to be leaving the Hawks.

Now, Capela is finally back with the Rockets, returning to a place he knows well, teaming up with Durant, Sengun, and others to chase a championship. The Rockets have been very active, signing Fini-Smith and Capela recently, after acquiring Durant earlier. Having been eliminated in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs last season, the Rockets appear poised to make a significant impact this year.

It is worth noting that Capela was once a target for the Lakers' mid-level exception signing, but with the Rockets' move, the Lakers' plans have fallen through again.
