On July 1st, Beijing time, during the third group match of the U19 Men's Basketball World Cup, China competed against Slovenia. After four quarters, China was defeated 82-99 by Slovenia, marking their third loss in a row. Chinese players included Xun Sinan with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks; Zhang Boyuan with 11 points and 3 rebounds; Feng Ao with 12 points and 5 rebounds; and Yang Yi with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
In the first quarter, Zhang Boyuan opened the scoring for China with a three-pointer from beyond the arc. China then pushed ahead with fast breaks, leading 11-5. Slovenia responded with consecutive outside shots, and after the score was tied at 19-19, China’s offense stalled. Slovenia finished the quarter leading 26-23 through a combination of shots and free throws. In the second quarter, Slovenia’s perimeter shooting remained sharp, extending their lead further with a 10-5 run.Xun Sinan scored consecutive baskets inside the paint, narrowing China’s deficit to 4 points. However, Slovenia hit back-to-back three-pointers from the corner, pushing the lead into double digits. By halftime, China trailed Slovenia 39-51.
In the second half, Slovenia continued to find opportunities from beyond the arc, while China struggled to find solutions. After Slovenia went on a 9-2 run, China had to call a timeout to regroup. Following the break, China’s offense was still plagued with turnovers, and Slovenia capitalized on fast breaks with precision, further extending their lead. Towards the end of the quarter, Yang Yi and Xun Sinan combined to score 5 points, but China still lagged behind 55-77. In the final quarter, Slovenia kept scoring through quick transitions. Feng Ao hit a three-pointer to stop the bleeding for China. Although China’s offense improved somewhat afterward, the gap was too large to overcome, and they ultimately suffered a heavy 82-99 loss to Slovenia.
